Rebecca Campbell is a Creative Developer with a passion for conceptual design. Her collaborations span film, theatre, fashion, the arts, interior design, education, publishing and gaming. With over ten years of professional experience and formal training in both linguistics and design, Rebecca uses her combined backgrounds to help clients develop their creative goals and realize their visions.
Currently based on the East Coast, Rebecca began her design career in Los Angeles where she earned both her fashion and costume design degrees at FIDM. In 2002 Rebecca won the Fashion Group International's Rudi Gernreich Award for her Evening Wear design. Later that same year she gained further couture exposure by first interning and then freelancing for red-carpet designer, Kevan Hall. Knowing Rebecca’s passion for costume design, Kevan introduced her to costume legend Ret Turner, who encouraged Rebecca throughout her transition from fashion to film and theatre. Then, in 2005, Rebecca joined the Costume Designers Guild, Local 892 and established her first studio workshop in downtown Los Angeles at the Brewery Arts Colony.
Prior to studying design, Rebecca received drawing and portraiture training in the UK. While there she also earned her honours degree in English and language studies, giving her deeper insight into the linguistic and cultural nuances of British drama. Upon graduation she delved further into linguistics, joining Pearson Education as an ELT lexicographer. She also traveled widely across Europe, expanding her insight into different languages and cultures. These diverse experiences have helped Rebecca develop a strong background in research, character development, semantic analysis, cultural awareness and thematic composition -- all conceptual skills which complement her technical design training.
Rebecca enjoys the creative process and over the years has had the opportunity to collaborate with many other inspired professionals. She has designed, illustrated and constructed styles for myriad productions including feature films, music videos, commercials, theatre productions and dance. She has also constructed custom pieces for artists and interior designers, including controversial soft sculptures for Paul McCarthy's modern art exhibit at the Haus der Kunst in Munich, Germany as well as Mike Kelley's "Day is Done" installation at the Gagosian Gallery in New York. In addition Rebecca has researched international cultural details and traditional costumes for a range of clients including children’s book illustrator, Jillian Suzanne, and language and culture gaming developer, Alelo.
